Information Sharing and Holistic Partnerships

At Station House Nursery we strive to create individual partnerships with parents through effective 2-way communication. We adopt a variety of approaches to share information with parents and for parents to share information with us, to ensure they become fully emerged in their child's nursery life.

Such partnerships are initiated and nurtured by the child’s Key Person, who has special responsibilities to each of their Key Children's families to be informative, supportive and responsive in order to give each of their Key Children the reassurance to feel safe, cared for and confident to learn, develop and grow as little individuals!

Tapestry Online Journals

In September 2015 we made the big decision, to move with the times and update our paper hard copy Learning Journals to ‘Tapestry” – an innovative, safe, online, environmentally friendly, instant 2-way communication between parent/carer and practitioners.

Our new Online Journals allow observations, photos, videos, and development trackers to be shared with each child’s parents/carers through a secure, individual online login system. Each time your child’s Key Person adds something to their journal, you will receive an instant/daily email of notification and by logging in to your child’s secure profile, you will be able to view all the fun your child has been having at nursery and links to how it is supporting their learning and development.

With your secure login details, Tapestry can be accessed from any laptop and desktop computer and on any tablet or smartphone, by downloading the Tapestry App, making your child’s nursery life instantly accessible even when at work or at home. Many of our parents have commented how they love looking at the photos/videos with their child and asking them about what they were doing and who they were playing with, while also getting ideas of activities they could do at home!

The beauty of Tapestry (and what our practitioners love about it!) is the parent/carer interaction side of it. Parents are able ‘like’ and ‘comment’ on any of their child’s nursery observations, giving confirmation of viewing it and often providing lots of insights from home! Furthermore, parents/carers can easily upload their own photos/videos of new skills, vocabulary, interesting days out, exciting adventures, birthday celebrations, holidays and any other significant moments in their child’s lives.

These parent/carer uploads are fantastic contributions to your child’s journal and also brilliant input for their Key Person, helping them create a more holistic view of your child’s abilities, skills, and current interests and using this information they can plan tailored, relevant and accurate Next Steps to support them in their development.

At the end of your child’s time at Station House, the online journals will be converted into a PDF document, for you to download and save/print as you wish.

[Please note, in order to uphold our Safeguarding and Confidentiality policies, upon registration for Tapestry you will be asked to sign a contract stating that any photos/videos are to be used for personal use only and must not be shared on any social networking sites]

Daily Diaries

Each child [0-3 years] has their own Daily Diary. Within this we record all relevant information from their day at nursery such as what they have eaten, nappy changes, sleep times and what they have been exploring!

As part of our 2-way communication we ask you as Parents/Carers to note down any information from home that may be beneficial for us to know or that may affect your child's well-being while in our care.

Room Cloud

Our room cloud is in the Toddler Room, located at the top of the stairs and is updated on a daily basis.

It informs parents of the snacks, lunch and tea we have eaten and what, as a room we have really enjoyed that day!

Our Rainbow Room Cloud is used alongside our daily books which is an individual record of our day!

We like it when pictures are drawn on our Room Cloud, to prompt us in telling our Mummies and Daddies what we have been up to!

Station House newsletters are sent out once a term to update you on our recent nursery adventures!

Within the newsletters we will inform you of any changes within the nursery, new projects or developments; any changes to staffing or any staff news (e.g. new staff starting or current staff going on maternity leave); recent Charity/Fundraiser Days - the fun we had and the money we raised; Dates for the Diary, such as up coming bank holidays, Open Day dates, Dunnington Fair dates and information for parents about Transitions within the nursery.

Our Newsletters will now be uploaded to our passworded Parent Portal in order to support our mission in becoming more environmentally friendly.

Parents Evenings/Open Days

Our Open Days are planned to welcome both our current and prospective parents to see our Nursery.

To help out you busy Mummies and Daddies, we generally hold them on a Saturday to enable as many of you to attend!

As new parents, you can expect an informative guided tour with one of our dedicated members of staff to view the rooms, resources, displays and activities, as-well as meeting the practitioners and seeing how your little one settles in! We are able to complete Registration Forms and book in settling in sessions for your child and their new room!

For all the current families, it is a fantastic opportunity to view your child's room, see what they have been up to recently and enjoy chatting with their Key Person, sharing your child's Tapestry Journal and providing comments and feedback!

Station House Sharing Tree

A new initiative of the nursery is our Sharing Tree [in entrance].

This has been designed to enable our families to share special news with the nursery on a regular basis!

These snippets of information will support us in making even stronger relationships with your children by understanding what is current and important to them in their family life.

Room and Nursery Displays

We strive to inform parents on all the fun we have at Station House Nursery! To help us, we create displays of the children's work, photos and developmental links to the EYFS, informing parents of how the activities can support their child's holistic development.

Rainbow Bear

The Rainbow Bear is a treasured member of the Toddler Room, who enjoys playing and learning with them!

He is also a well travelled bear who enjoys being taken home by the Toddlers to meet their families, explore their interests and see what they get up to when they are not in nursery!

Rainbow Bear comes complete with a suitcase, packed with outfits to suit many occasion and he takes his special diary with him so he can record all his adventures!

Rainbow Bear provides perfect opportunities to create strong links between home-nursery and support communication by providing visual prompts (photos from home) to aid vocabulary and re-call.

If you have a special event, holiday or would like Rainbow Bear to meet your family and spend time at your house, please ask the Toddler team to take him home!

Sunshine Bear

Sunshine Bear and her little sister Bea are friends of all the children in the Sunshine Room and love to share their special moments at nursery and home, often taking part in the focus group activities and even joining in Birthday celebrations!

The children in the Sunshine Room take them home along with their scrap-book to record their adventures and when they return, Sunshine and Bea enjoy helping the child talk about their experiences to their friends using their photos and comments!

Bea also loves going on holiday with the children (she's the perfect travel-sized friend!)

If you wish to take Sunshine Bear or Bea home with you - please speak to a member of the Pre-school room team!
